Solo Leveling Season 1 Review: Feeble boy turns into a Demi God

What is Solo Leveling About?

Sung Jin-Woo with a blade

Solo Leveling is based on a Dungeon gaming system where the players level up as they move ahead in the monster-filled dungeons. After a successful Solo Leveling Season 1 we are already gearing up for the Second Season. The power system of this anime is perfect, and the character designs are K-drama boys on steroids. The Manhwa is written by Chu Gong and illustrated by Dubu and Gi Si-Ryeong. Dubu died in early 2023 before the anime was released, this had a huge impact on the solo leveling community.

Solo Leveling’s world consists of humans with supernatural abilities, the event called “Gates” took place 10 years ago. This opened portals to other dimensions which led in some of the dangerous monsters, they wanted nothing but human bloodshed. That’s the reason the humans had to turn into Hunters who would go down into the dungeons and destroy these scary monsters. A Hunter’s job is to keep defeating monsters as he goes deep into the dungeons, this way they can level up their powers and skills. Their supernatural abilities get honed during this dangerous journey, or else they meet a tragic death.

Our MC Sung Jinwoo is a piece of thrash and weak Hunter, this E-Ranked weakling has always been on the verge of being stomped whenever he entered the gates. But one fine day all of his members get killed in the dungeon mission, and he gets selected by the program known as ‘System’. This system counts him as the sole survivor of his party and this is where his life changes.

Sung Jinwoo gains powers and every stat in his body rockets up to the moon, he can also transform the monsters he defeats into his slaves, and he calls them shadows! Once he learns to control his powers skillfully, we see him rampaging through these monster filled dungeons. Watching a loser turn into a demi-god was inspiring, the Solo Leveling Season 1 became one of the best rated anime seasons of all time.

Solo Leveling came in with an amazing first season and left everyone speechless, the weebs couldn’t wait for the anime to release. Solo Leveling Season 1 was released on January 7, 2024. The anime is based on protagonist Sung Jinwoo’s journey of becoming a Hunter.

Solo Leveling Season 1 consists 12 Episodes in total, the anime had some of the best rated episodes in anime history. It was all over the internet displaying how the new Korean Manhwa Anime is now in the race of the best anime in 2024!

This pure fantasy anime has turned into a powerful phenomenon just by a single season. The MMORPG inspired missions in isekai also pull in fans from the gaming community. The visuals of Season were spellbinding, it never felt like it was the first season of a manhwa. It has a very strong writing, the direction by Shunsuke Nakashige is immaculate, and the animation woah. Where do we start with the animation style? The A-1 Pictures Animation studio has done the perfect job of bringing life to the amazing story of Sung Jinwoo.

The perfectly choreographed fights are the soul of the anime, and the sound track design by Sawano Hiroyuki adds the cherry to the cake. Sung Jinwoo became too powerful in the mid season and then it was a cakewalk for him, that’s why we craved for more action and stronger opponents for the MC. Throughout the story you will meet a lot of different hunters who are strong! Jinwoo’s power levels were towering above them all, and this did create a bubble of jealousy around the hunters.

The world building is beautiful and using your skills to gain points at the sake of your lives is crazy. But that’s what the whole world of Solo leveling, a feeble guy turned into the greatest human in the world of Solo Leveling. Sung Jinwoo’s handsome looks, monster power levels garnered a lot of attention from the Otakus. Jinwoo also became a part of the most common conversation in the anime community “Can he beat Goku?” Well, being compared to the greatest is something all MC’s dream about. Sung Jinwoo, you should be proud of yourself.

The anime shows Jinwoo tried to change the game according to his power levels, but that wasn’t an easy task. The otakus are hyped for another Solo Leveling Season as the Solo Leveling Season 1 left everyone behind. It is already rated as the Anime of the Year by critics. The anime world has strong competition but Sung Jinwoo’s army is stronger than them.

The Solo Leveling Season 1 was a masterpiece by A-1 Pictures, they played all the right cards which now created this huge community for Solo Leveling. We wish Dubu, who was one of the illustrators of the Manhwa, was alive to see his art making otakus feel joy.
